Honda CR-Z launches with two digital initiatives

We're proud to unveil two exciting pieces of work Collective has created recently for Honda's new sporty hybrid coupé, the CR-Z.

First off is Mode Art, a Facebook app that allows you to turn your profile picture into a unique work of art to match the CR-Z's three driving modes: sporty, econ and normal. We've had great fun here playing with our mugshots - here's how some of them turned out:

The second piece of work is an interactive 3D model of the CR-Z exterior that again highlights its three driving modes. Experience the car in its full 360-degree glory at Honda.co.uk.

We're off to the Revolution Awards

Sarah is getting her nails done. Adam took five hours to look for a suit in London. And the others … well, let’s just say they haven’t come out the bathroom yet.

We’re really looking forward to attending the Revolution Awards tonight and are dusting down our DJs and gowns. We’re nominated for three awards: Problem Playground and Honda.co.uk in the 'Automotive’ category, and Honda.co.uk in the ‘Best Website’ category.

Wish us luck!

Times are tough, and it really shows

When your staff are dedicated to their clients, it's nice to see them using their initiative to show the world just how much. Even though Grant only has one tog bag to bring his football kit in, he couldn't bear to face the office with a competitor's brand floating around. So out came the trusty Sharpie pen and chaos was restored.

Lets hope he doesn't run into big Toyota fans... Go Honda!

Pass the Jazz - Homepage takeover

Honda Jazz

Honda Jazz

As part of the 'Pass the Jazz' campaign, we've just launched a Honda Jazz homepage takeover that highlights Jazz drivers and why they love their little cars.

35-year-old Lynnette Smith, who was selected from a long list of 230 entries, stars on the Honda.co.uk homepage with a video showcasing her Jazz story, quotes about why her car is such an important part of her life, and photography of her beloved Jazz.

This is the first time that Honda has turned over its site to its customers, reinforcing the concept of brand advocacy that is central to the ‘Pass the Jazz’ campaign. However, user-generated content and customer opinion has been central to the Jazz website for some time, with Honda believing firmly in allowing customers to air their views on their cars in an honest and transparent way.

Visitors are encouraged to continue to ‘Pass the Jazz’ by sending a message to a friend from one of the stories pages, or by downloading a branded Facebook application which links back to the website.

Well done to everyone who worked on the site! We've already got a mix of stories from the charming to the inspiring to the funny.

passthejazz.co.uk

Our microsite for the forthcoming new Honda Jazz launched this week, and it gives you the chance to take over the Jazz home page for a day – another exciting first for Honda.

We want to hear your Jazz stories – those adventures you’ve been on together or simply the way it makes you smile every day. All the stories will appear on our site and one Jazz driver will be chosen to personalise our home page. Be a part of it:

It all gets touchy-feely at MotorShow 2008

Gone are the days when the leather seats, walnut veneer and shiny gear sticks were the only thing you touched at the Motor Show. With engagement being a major player these days, getting consumers to discover more about the latest cars or the value of a particular automotive brand, the world of digital is fast becoming a more valuable entity to grab.

This year saw a sensory myriad of things to touch and play with. From the simple terminal screens, right through to USB sticks, panels, blocks, visors, skateboards and playgrounds (as well as the new cars of course!)

Probably the largest of the interactive areas to digitally tinker in was the Honda 'Problem Playground'. Based around the online experience launched earlier this year, the Playground is a place that tells the story of how Honda loves problems and more specifically, how to solve them (if you look back over time, they've been solving problems for years).

Typically, the first problem to solve before you get to touch any screen was how to get to the challenges in the first place, but once in front of a screen, there is an array of interactive problems that Honda have solved in recent years for you to discover and interact with.

But why take our word for it? The Motor show is still open (last day is the 3rd August 2008), so get your tickets now, whilst it's still there!

Hondamentalism challenge widget flashback

We're getting into our widgets at the moment. Here's one we did earlier for the Hondamentalism campaign, way, way back in 2007. We looked at the way Youtube were distributing videos virally, and thought, why not do the same for our Honda microsite content?

Since then we've created a few more widgets, and started using clever technology from the Clearspring guys that lets users add widgets to any of their social networks with just one click. Watch this space for more widget news coming soon.

Tonight on Channel 4, Honda are creating a world first - a 100% live TV ad, to promote the new Accord. Skydivers will be attempting to spell the word 'HONDA' in the sky in a 3-minute ad break broadcast live from Madrid. The concept was a collaboration between Honda, its agencies, and Channel 4.

If you miss the ad, which airs at 8.10 tonight, we’ll be putting it on honda.co.uk/accord later.

Problem Playground TV ad

Here's the Honda Problem Playground TV ad, from Wieden+ Kennedy London.

This is a short film on the making of the ad by W+K London.

More W+K nice stuff from their Welcome to Optimism blog - a short film "that will be used in dealerships and trade shows to support the launch of the Honda environment campaign. There is also a little book to support the film that will be put into the glove box of all Civic Hybrids and to anyone that takes one for a test drive."

New www.problemplayground.com Honda site is live

Today Collective went live with the new http://www.problemplayground.com/ site - as part of Honda's latest Problem Playground campaign.

The main site follows on from a teaser campaign which involved the completion of a 20,000 piece online jigsaw puzzle (we think it's the world’s largest) to form the homepage of the main site.

The new site immerses people in Honda’s world of problem solving and uses loads of puzzles – from Rubik’s cubes to slider puzzles – to deliver the stories of Honda’s engineering innovations. These include Honda’s zero emission FCX Clarity hydrogen fuel cell car, 60mpg Civic Hybrid and Solar Refuelling Station.

You can watch Wieden+Kennedy London's TV ad here. The actors from the TV ad are transformed into a group of animated characters who help users throughout the experience, demonstrating Honda’s problem solving nature.

The wider digital campaign is one of Honda's most ambitious. With interactive banners, an Independent online advertorial, puzzle-solving widget, sponsorship of Multimap and a tie-up with Yahoo Answers, the campaign is all about closely associating Honda with 'solutions'.

As Jonny Freeman, Honda’s Digital Marketing Manager, says, “Digital provides us with an ideal opportunity to bring the whole notion of problem solving to life, and to demonstrate Honda’s long term commitment – stretching back 50 years – to creating innovative products with less impact on the environment.”

Our Honda ProblemPlayground.com teaser site goes live

Collective went live this week with http://www.problemplayground.com/ - the teaser site for Honda's new Problem Playground campaign.

Check it out - Problemplayground.com turns the campaign mantra of 'When problems are a joy' into a 20,000 piece online jigsaw puzzle that users can collaborate on to solve. Once built it will form the homepage of the main site. We think that's the biggest ever online jigsaw puzzle. Definitely the biggest online jigsaw puzzle Collective have ever worked on.

With a community-oriented focus, the teaser site lets viewers drag and drop their own specific piece of the puzzle into the proper spot, then sign up to the site and get a front-row seat to the Feb 4th launch. The launch will feature puzzles about a variety of Honda products, explaining the technologies and tools behind Honda’s engineering prowess.

In the meantime, while the 20,000-piece puzzle fills up, visitors can click through and listen to Garrison Keillor as he narrates the advantages and features of the Honda Hybrid model.

W+K London came up with the campaign - here's the current press and poster campaigns - see if you can spot the URL : )

Guardian Media article - you need to register to read this one - ”By using a commercial with some depth, intrigue and mystery, Honda is wrapping its own engineering ethos with depth, intrigue and mystery.”

Independent Media Weekly article - written by Claire Beale, editor of Campaign magazine - W&K’s Hondamentalism TV ad gets Beale’s Best In Show.
